The two brothers were responsible for the monumental task of deliniating some 400 topographical views of England and Wales depicting the fast deteriorating monasteries and castles.
This occupied them from 1721 to 42 the plates being issued as they became available under various titles amongst which were VIEWS OF PALACES OF ENGLAND AND WALES 1729, VIEWS OF THE RUINS ABBEYS AND CASTLES 1742 and also issued in parts in county form. The whole work culminating in 1774 with VENERABLE REMAINS OF CASTLES MONASRTIES AND ABBEYS IN ENGLAND and WALES in 3 volumes the last of which contains Prospects of Famous Cities printed by Robert Sayer of London where CWL189 and CWL190 are found.

The only variations are the index nos. to the right or left the I place the numbers on the left as coming from the earlier county editions and those on the right with the left erased as coming from the complete works of 1777 Platemaarks should always be present.

From the final issue of 1777 to around 1800 there was no copyright act so one can see many reductions of Buck views to illustrate topographical books of this period.
